One of the most convenient features of the Google Toolbar that i've used in the past was that you could control how a new search behaved. I always had new searches open up in a new tab, so i don't disturb what i'm currently working on (especially if i'm searching to look something up).
Well, you can have this same feature without having the Google Toolbar. This feature is actually in Firefox, you just have to enable it.
To enable opening a search in a new tab follow these steps:
- Type in about:config in the address bar and hit enter. (in FF3.5+ it will confirm you want to change settings)
- Look for browser.search.openintab in the list of Preference Names OR just search for it using the Filter (as seen in pic 1)
- It should say false. If so, Double Click on it and it will change to true.
You're done! you can close that tab and continue normally. try it out, doing a search will open in a new tab as you can see in the final two pictures (and yes, i've been testing Bing for the past month, my review to come).
