Facebook currently uses your pictures from your photo albums in their
third-party advertisements on your friends' pages. According to
Facebook, they justify this by saying: "
Facebook Ads make
advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your
friends."
While your pictures never actually leave the circle of your friends, I
still don't want my friends to be tricked into advertisements for
products or services that I don't personally endorse. To me, this isn't
a privacy issue, just one on principle.
So here is how you remove your pictures from your friends' ads:
1. HOVER over
Settings in the upper right corner of your
Facebook page, next to your name and a drop down should appear. Click
on
Privacy Settings.
2. Click on
News Feed and Wall.
3. Click on the
Facebook Ads tab.
4. From the drop down*, choose
No one.
*I should say that for me, I had to use another browser to get
this page (Google Chrome in my case) because for some reason in Firefox
3.5.1 my Facebook Ads page was completely
blank.
